Barcelona - Hollywood

Authored and illustrated by prominent Catalan cartoonist, writer, and humorist Valentí Castanys, Barcelona-Hollywood: Ràdio-Cinema-Sonor is a vintage satirical volume exploring the cultural impact of early sound cinema, radio broadcasting, and Hollywood glamour on contemporary urban society. The striking illustrated cover features a two-tone black and terracotta Art Deco illustration depicting a serenading scene with a guitarist in a horse-drawn carriage performing beneath a balcony, set against stylized light beams. The book offers a humorous, sharp visual commentary on the arrival of talkies, mass media, and modern pop culture in 1930s Barcelona.
