Birds And Animals From The National Gallery

Published in London, United Kingdom, by the Publications Department of the National Gallery (Printed for the Trustees), "Birds and Animals from the National Gallery" is a charming vintage art booklet and picture reference collection compiled from the world-famous permanent collection of the National Gallery in London. Published in the post-WWII era, this specialized volume explores the artistic representation of wildlife, domestic animals, and avian subjects across centuries of European masterworks, detailing how legendary painters integrated fauna into religious, mythological, and genre scenes.

Featuring a delicate cream-colored softcover presentation, the front cover displays a centered rectangular frame with a green diagonal stripe border enclosing a monochrome detail illustration of a cat crouched over a ball, taken from a master painting in the gallery's collection. Below the artwork, elegant red script typography reads "Birds and Animals from the National Gallery" across three gracefully arranged lines. Inside, the publication contains a curated series of full-page monochrome plates showcasing animal and bird details extracted from famous paintings by Old Masters and European artists, complete with descriptive captions and provenance details. An essential collectible for art historians, animal art enthusiasts, National Gallery ephemera collectors, and lovers of vintage British museum publications.
