Disney animation

Published in the United States by Abbeville Press, Disney Animation: The Illusion of Life is an essential, landmark publication considered by animators and film historians to be the definitive bible of traditional character animation. Written by master animators Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston—key members of Walt Disney's famed Nine Old Men who helped shape the studio's golden age—this comprehensive volume details the fundamental twelve principles of animation, character development, storytelling techniques, and production history behind Walt Disney Studios' most cherished animated feature films and shorts.

The dust jacket cover features a rich full-color illustration depicting characters from the classic animated feature Pinocchio running happily through a cobbled village square holding schoolbooks under their arms, alongside Jiminy Cricket. Across the top sky area, the main title appears in stylized red script reading Disney Animation, above the secondary line THE ILLUSION OF LIFE printed in crisp black serif typography. In the lower right corner, author credits are displayed in white serif text reading Frank Thomas & Ollie Johnston. Inside, the volume is lavishly filled with rare concept art, original pencil animation tests, storyboard sketches, color model sheets, and film stills. An absolute cornerstone centerpiece collectible for animation historians, Disney art book collectors, film archives, and professional character animators worldwide.
