La création du monde

Published in France by Éditions Gallimard, La Création du Monde 1 is an exceptional and highly collectible vintage edition by the legendary French illustrator and cartoonist Jean Effel (François Lejeune). Renowned across mid-century European graphic art for his witty, poetic, and satirical series La Création du Monde, Effel reimagined biblical creation into a heartwarming and humorous visual narrative where a kindly, white-bearded Creator constructs the universe with playful ingenuity, everyday objects, and boundless imagination.
The front cover features a striking black background with the main title la création du monde rendered in bold, flowing white script typography across the upper portion, accompanied by the volume number 1 in the top right corner. The central illustration depicts Effel's iconic God figure sitting atop a cloud, smoking a long pipe and blowing soapy bubbles into the cosmos that form white celestial globes alongside a brightly colored yellow sunburst. Additional whimsical details on the cloud include a pair of dice and a tiny flower. The author's signature jean effel appears in flowing script on the lower left, with the publisher imprint GALLIMARD printed in white lettering across the bottom. Inside, the volume contains full-page cartoon illustrations and witty captions chronicling the earliest days of the universe. An essential centerpiece collectible for vintage French illustration archives, Jean Effel collectors, European cartoon history libraries, and classic Gallimard art publications.
