La grande panique

Published in France as part of the acclaimed Folio series by Éditions Gallimard, La Grande Panique is a vintage French paperback cartoon collection by the internationally revered cartoonist and illustrator Jean-Jacques Sempé. Known worldwide for his iconic covers for The New Yorker and as the co-creator of Le Petit Nicolas, Sempé brings his signature blend of gentle irony, architectural elegance, and deep affection for the human condition to this standalone graphic collection.

The front cover features a warm yellow border surrounding a central off-white cream field. At the top, Sempé's name is written in delicate handwritten script. The title LA GRANDE PANIQUE is split across the top and bottom in large, three-dimensional hand-lettered block characters in red and yellow. In the center, an oval watercolor vignette depicts an understated couple standing together on a grassy hill amidst rolling trees and soft cloud formations under a pale sky. The iconic Folio publisher logo appears at the lower right. Inside, the book contains full-page black-and-white and watercolor drawings with French captions, dissecting urban neuroses, social awkwardness, and the quiet panics of daily life. An essential centerpiece collectible for vintage graphic art collectors, Sempé enthusiasts, and French illustration archives.
