Second help-ing

Published in the United States by Fawcett Publications under the Gold Medal Book imprint, Harvey Kurtzman's Second Help!-ing is an iconic vintage paperback humor anthology edited by legendary American cartoonist, editor, and MAD magazine visionary Harvey Kurtzman. Carrying catalog number s1225 and originally sold for 35 cents, this follow-up volume compiles a rich selection of satirical comic strips, photo stories, and biting lampoons selected from the pages of Help! magazine.

The front cover features a bright yellow background framing a dramatic pop art photo-collage. In the upper left corner, a medal icon displays the Gold Medal logo alongside catalog number s1225, while the original 35c price mark rests in the upper right. Bold dark typography across the top reads HARVEY KURTZMAN'S SECOND, directly above the massive red title HELP! and the suffix -ING. The lower layout shows a woman's profile opening her mouth to accept a large spoon holding fan-out photographic panels, including a satirical image featuring Grace Kelly and John F. Kennedy with a speech bubble reading "And to think I settled for that schnook Rainier." Lower text playfully asks: Is some man feeding this girl a lot of foolishness? Is that man the author of FAST-ACTING HELP? The answers are yes! Inside, the pages contain brilliant mid-century counterculture satire, comic strips, and photo-parodies. An essential centerpiece collectible for vintage paperback collectors, underground comix historians, and satire archives.
